Description
Basket chandelier with approx. 72 light fittings and an abundance of additional light fittings with which the chandelier was equipped in connection with its electrification. The basket consisted of assembled cast brass parts mounted on an iron rod, which in turn was covered with glass elements. The richly designed arms of the basket were adorned with a lavish crystal hanging consisting of recurring hanging parts. A ten-pointed star was always combined with a “baroque” pendulum. The upper end of the chandelier was characterized by a chased metal crown and a wreath with a hanging above it.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, 2nd floor, Bärengartenflügel, tapestry hall; Listed in inventory no. 1 dated 31 January 1920, as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal family of 1924, which, as room inventory marked with a red cross, belongs to the state; The chandelier from the Imperial Salon was either moved on 13 April 1944 or, at the latest, with the second transport on 21 April 1944 to the relocation site at the Brauna manor near Kamenz. Nothing is known about the circumstances surrounding the loss of this object. It is presumed to have been lost in connection with the events of the Second World War.
