Description
The basket most likely consisted of assembled cast brass parts, which were mounted on an iron rod. This was covered with individual glass elements and fitted with a lower end element, the so-called “Bas de Lustre”. The richly decorated arms of the basket were covered with a lavish crystal hanging consisting of repeating hanging elements. A ten-pointed star was always combined with a “baroque” pendulum. The upper end of the chandelier was crown-shaped. Two rows of prisms were positioned here. The chandelier had 72 light fittings and was electrified around 1901/1902.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, 1st floor of the Georg Building, King's Audience Chamber; In inventory list no. 1 dated 31 January 1920, as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal family of 1924, a bronze chandelier with prismsthe is is listed for audience chamber, which was purchased by the state; The exact date of removal is not on record, but the removal measures were completed in the summer of 1944. The chandelier from the audience chamber may have been removed during this transport on 26 April 1944 and taken to the relocation site Rammenau Castle. Nothing is known about the circumstances surrounding the loss of these objects. It is assumed that they were lost in connection with the events of the Second World War.
