Description
Basket chandelier with 40 light fittings (increased to 66 light fittings after electrification) and lavish crystal hanging. The basket most likely consisted of assembled cast brass parts mounted on an iron rod. This was covered with individual glass elements and fitted with a lower end element, the so-called “Bas de Lustre”. The ornate arms of the basket were decorated with a lavish crystal hanging consisting of repeating hanging elements. A ten-pointed star was always combined with a “baroque” pendulum. The upper end of the chandelier was crown-shaped. Here there were prisms in two rows.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, 1st floor north wing, Hall of Mirrors; In inventory list no. 1 dated 31 January 1920, as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal family of 1924, a large electric bronze chandelier with glass pendants and 66 candles is listed for the Hall of Mirrors, which was purchased by the state; An exact date of removal is not on record. The measures were completed in the summer of 1944. The chandelier was probably removed on April 26, 1944 and taken to the relocation site at Rammenau Castle. Nothing is known about the circumstances of the loss of these objects. It is assumed that they were lost in connection with the events of the Second World War.
