Description

Shape:

Bulbous, footless vase; flat, horizontal shoulder with contrasting, cylindrical neck.

Décor:

Above the base, a robust branch grows out of dense vegetation of leaves and flowers and a stylised rock, spreading asymmetrically on the outside and bearing splendid flowers and small leaves; below the shoulder a flying bird and an insect; larger parts of the outside unpaited; unpainted flat shoulder; the neck contrasted by a gold line, and a small flower tendril.

Manufacturer's mark: underglazed blue AR monogram.

Comment:

The cover shown in the historical photo is preserved: SKD, porcelain collection, inv. no. PE 2011 b; dimensions: h. 7.3 cm, d. 10.5 cm.

Provenance
Dresden Castle, tower room; the collection of porcelain, together with the carpets, furnishings from the porcelain gallery and scientific material (10 boxes), was relocated to 16 different locations in a total of 1211 boxes. The relocation sites, some of which were castles and manor houses, served as refugee accommodation after 1945. As part of the collection was later offered for sale by private individuals or found in private estates, it is assumed that some of the losses were due to looting and destruction. According to the loss report for the porcelain collection from 1991, a partial transport to the Soviet Union cannot be ruled out.
