Description
Morgiane, with drawn dagger and a tambourine beating black man dressed only in a loincloth, approach the band of robbers dressed in oriental costume, who have settled down at a table. "Spannungsreiche Komposition, die im Kolorit von kalter zu warmer Farbstimmung wechselt. Die Kleidung und der Schmuck der Morgiane mit Goldtupfern akzentuiert." (Description catalogue Hauswedell & Nolte, p. 351). This colourful sketch was ultimately not realized, as it did not fit stylistically to the others (see MSA 09 and 11), only airily washed with one colour watercolours (UW); signed lower right: Slevogt; inscribed "N°39"
