Provenance
On 15 October 1943, the books were moved to a former explosives room on the 2nd level of the Heiligenroda III shaft near Dorndorf/Rhön. From 25-27 June and on 3 July 1945, the removed books were transported to the Marburg State Archives by US Army lorries, and some of the transport crates were broken open by the US soldiers. The removal lists revealed the loss of numerous manuscripts, including 2 Dutch books of hours. According to the mine administration, the looting was carried out by Soviet foreign labourers, but the case of the 'finder' of the cimelia 'Cicero: De inventione rhetorica', a former US soldier, makes it clear that US soldiers also stole there. The work was returned in 1979 (see 'Aufsatz Verschollene Buchschätze der Landesbibliothek Kassel'). Destroyed by bombing or the effects of war or could no longer be found after 1945; [...]; 1978 returned to the library by the USA
