Description
Shape:
Baluster-shaped body with rounded foot; high shoulder; contrasted neck with diagonal fluting.
Décor:
Relief on the surface of the body: scenery of a battue with meshes, the foreground half to full sculptured, showing dogs attacking a wild boar; the sides of the vase are accentuated by full sculptural hunting scenes, which develop spatially from the foot to the right and left, left side: oak branches, a jumping deer, which is caught by a dog; right side: beech branches, a jumping deer, which is attacked by three dogs.
Comments:
The vase shown in the photograph of 1941 without cover is accompanied in the porcelain collection by the presumably matching cover: SKD, Porzellansammlung, inv. no. PE 3735 b (HMA no. III 473); dimensions: h. 19.5 cm, w. 18.4 cm, d. 10.7 cm.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, tower room; the collection of porcelain, together with the carpets, furnishings from the porcelain gallery and scientific material (10 boxes), was relocated to 16 different locations in a total of 1211 boxes. The relocation sites, some of which were castles and manor houses, served as refugee accommodation after 1945. As part of the collection was later offered for sale by private individuals or found in private estates, it is assumed that some of the losses were due to looting and destruction. According to the loss report for the porcelain collection from 1991, a partial transport to the Soviet Union cannot be ruled out.
