Signed lower right: H MP 1919 (together); pine and birch in counter-play of strongly twitching and calm even lines, combining strong and soft coloring characteristically: red-brown to green, yellow-orange light green and white; carmine, yellow and green to the forest soil, in the foreground a broad road in yellow orange coloring; green tuft of grass and much brown along and between the logs and crowns contribute to relife the composition;
cf. Soika, Catalogue raisonné, No 1919/31 ("Sonnenflecken im Wald"): "The painting resembles the picture description of 'Waldlandschaft' in the Littmann collection inventory." (with image)
