Description
one of twenty-four shallow plates; from the service of the Dutch governor William V; colourfully painted and gilded over relief decoration, the mirror framed in gold rocaille with views of Dutch towns, castles and country houses and of colonial villages; on the fittingly curved rim three oval cartouches with floral filling and as border blue staffing and toothed gold moulding
The plates are part of a dining service allegedly made for a Dutch governor, which may have been designed and painted by the porcelain painter Borrmann (Cf. Pazaurek, 1929). Other pieces of the dinner service now in the museums of Hamburg, Dresden, Stuttgart.
