Description
Rising heights on both sides descend in the centre to a gentle valley, through which a stream narrowed by boulders flows to the right and across the foreground to the left. On the left high trees and a ruin, opposite forest. In the background blue mountains. On the left in the foreground a shepherd in antique costume drives two white cows to the brook, on the right a second shepherd sits on the bank, lacing his sandals. Further back below the ruin two others in conversation. Bez, bottom left: C. R.

Brederlo's painting collection (Friedrich Wilhelm Brederlo); 1906 loan from the von Sengbusch family to the city of Riga with the right to return it at any time; Dr Reinhold Alexander and Margarete von Sengbusch; handed over by the UTAG in 1942 and packed between boxes in the cellar at Wissmannstraße 156 in Poznan; left behind in 1945; lost since then
