Description
The first wife of James II of England, a lady of about 30 years, with blond hair, brown eyes and double chin, wearing a close-fitting, yellow-brown silk dress with wide sleeves and medium neckline; she is sitting turned to the left, with her right hand on her cheek; she rests her elbow on a marble vase, decorated with classical ornaments; her left hand also rests on the vase, from which a yellow-brown curtain is draped; the colours are cold, and the brushwork rather sketchy.
Provenance
Belongs to the paintings retained in 1824 (cf. 1854 inventory). [...]. Photo of Rose Heidl 1940; in 1943 still present in the library, on August 11, 1943 to Reinhardsbrunn (Catalog 1943, Bl. 76); since then whereabouts unknown.
