Description
A young woman with dark blond hair, which is held together with a pearl-beaded hairnet, and grey-blue eyes, sits on a round chair with carved armrests; she wears a dark dress, a tulle veil on the neck and shouders, and a valuable pendant on a string of pearls; she holds a prayer book bound in green and a carnation in her hands.
Provenance
From the collection of Frederick IV of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (cf. 1826 inventory). In 1943 still present in the museum (catalog 1943, p. 351), presumably transferred to Russia in 1945; returned in 1959, but to Dessau; April 8, 2014 returned from Dessau to Gotha.
