Description
Unidentified Sennin carrying a boy on his back, who clings to his shoulder and whom he supports by reaching backwards with his right arm; around the robe, which leaves the chest free, he wears a kind of apron, on the belt above it a manju netsuke, tobacco pouch and pipe case; remains of the original painting in purple, green, brown and white; signed: Shuzan.
Provenance
Acquired in 1908 by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan from the Vautier Collection; 1908 to 1942 Ostasiatica Collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; confiscated by the SD in Rotterdam in 1942.
