Description
Unknown alpine dairyman carrying on his shoulders a child sitting on his left side, roaring loudly and holding on to his head with both hands; his grinning face is beardless except for the framing stubble; the strongly moved, wrinkled robe is girded by a leafy apron; in his left hand he carries a fruit, while the right holds the boy's leg; in the hollows of the robe sparse remains of green, in the child's open mouth of red colour.
Provenance
Acquired in 1908 by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan from the Vautier Collection; 1908 to 1942 Ostasiatica Collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; confiscated by the SD in Rotterdam in 1942.
