In 1942 and 1944, the library collection, together with prints from the Butendach community, was relocated in around 370 boxes to Plömnitz (Königsberg / Neumark), where it was confiscated by the Soviet military administration of Saxony-Anhalt in 1946 and initially taken to Nizhny Novgorod on the Volga. From the interim storage centre in Nizhny Novgorod, the cultural artefacts were distributed to various Russian libraries and institutes.
