Description
Designation: bottom left: "Gez. v. Ludwig Lange"; bottom right: "Stahlst. v. J. Riegel"; centre bottom: "Mainz/ Druck & Verlag v. G.G. Lange in Darmstadt"; on the reverse side pencil mark "17 + 22" (corresponds to the sheet size of the steel engraving). Under passepartout.
Provenance
Part of a bundle of originally 50 single prints and 3 portfolios, all of them Moguntines (i.e. steel and copper engravings or lithographs with historical views of the city of Mainz). In February 1943, after the deportation of the owners, they were confiscated by the tax office Darmstadt-Stadt (tax office identification number for the single graphic at hand: "Da. St. A 179/23" bzw. "Da. St. A 181/23"). On 13 September 1943, by order of the Chief Finance President of Hesse, transferred to the Gemäldegalerie Mainz. Estimated price for the entire collection: RM 600.
