Universitätsbibliothek Marburg
About the institution
In autumn 2001, the Marburg University Library began to systematically search its holdings for Nazi looted property. In the process, all acquisitions that come into question as looted property (antiquarian purchases from the years 1933 to 1950 and all other books that came into the library second-hand during this period) are recorded and examined for ownership marks.
All cases in which the investigations reveal concrete evidence that books were expropriated, confiscated or sold involuntarily are successively published in the Lostart database.
After the completion of the recording work, the other data ascertained within the framework of the project will also be made accessible in an online database. Until then, please contact the address given (contact person) with enquiries about books or their previous owners.
Marburg University Library endeavours to support the rightful owners in finding their property and to return the books identified as looted property. In several cases this has already been done or the books remain in the library with the consent of their owners.
