Provenance
1897 Creation of the painting by the artist. 1908 Proof of 2 paintings ("Bismarck in Kürassieruniform mit Mütze") from the possession Mrs. of Lenbach in the entrance and storage book of the commissioned goods of the gallery Heinemann without measurements. 1938 (presumably) Purchase of the painting by the Reichskanzlei from the Galerie Almas-Dietrich, Munich. 1938 Use of the painting in "Führerbau" Munich, Arcisstraße 5 for equipment purposes in the "Führer" room, room 125. 1945 Takeover of the painting from the "Führerbau" Munich Arcisstraße 5, to the CCP Munich. Registration under the no. 7487. 1965 handover of the painting to the Federal Foreign Office, use of the painting for equipment purposes. There is no evidence of a Nazi persecution-related loss of assets. Because of the gaps in the history of the provenance, however, such an approach can not be completely ruled out.
