Document Collection Arthur Simon & van Amerongen




The bundle consists of the following documents:
1. contemporary envelope
2. draft of a marriage contract
3. membership application to a cabaret promotion association: "Schimmenspel Chiel de Boer"
4. envelope with initials "I.B." and address "Koninginnenweg 235, Amsterdam" (the initials and address of Artur Simon's wife), including a hat pattern (head circumference) made of brown wrapping paper
5. postcard
6. notice of the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs of 13.2.1941 concerning housing allowances
7. notice of the "Raad van Arbeid, Amsterdam" (Labour Office) from 1941, addressed to A Simon
8. information letter (presumably from the municipality of Amsterdam) concerning the obligation to produce identity papers and the procedure for applying for identity papers.
9. handout of the Reichsbüro for the distribution of textile products by the trade.
10. 3 identical portrait photographs of an approximately 28 to 30 year old man in a double-breasted suit and full beard. Made by the photographer E. Sanders, Oosterstraat, Groningen. Stylistically and technically pre-dating the First World War.
11. a photograph of a lady in a swimming costume on the beach
12. lawyer's letter
13. business card
14. patent specification (OCTROOIBEWIJS)
These documents belonged to at least three households that could be identified from the contents. Among them also an unknown person, of whom only anonymous photographs are included.
A. The envelope of the collection is from the van Amerongen couple from Amsterdam:
Marianne van Amerongen-Luza (6.8.1883 Amsterdam - 21.5.1943 Sobibor).
Isidore van Amerongen (13.7.1883 Amsterdam - 21.5.1943 Sobibor)
B. Most of the documents can be clearly linked to the couple Arthur Simon and Berta Irene Berghold-Simon and their daughter Hertha Eleonore.

C. An unknown man
Only three photographs, prints of the same negative, showing a bearded man around thirty years old, could not be clearly assigned to any person. The photographs were probably taken before the First World War in the Elkan Sanders photo studio in Groningen, Oosterstraat 211.
