Description
According to the Greek legend, Eris, the goddess of discord, because she was not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, threw a golden apple with the inscription "the most beautiful" among the assembled goddesses. This led to a dispute between Juno (Hera), Minerva (Athene) and Venus (Aphrodite), whom Paris was to decide, and on which the Trojan War was kindled. The Paris of this group, which is usually reproduced sitting, has not been preserved, but Venus has already given the controversy which the latter holds in his left hand. The master of these forms of the gods, who equally shines in the depiction of the figures as in the rendering of the robe and accessories, clearly shows Flemish training. (The spear is missing, the dragon head is broken off in the helmet, in tightly fitting tanks, and the outstretched upright holds the spear, the left is supported by a reel - strong pier ... the old pedestal of the pear tree (... = in the original illegible)
