Rural breakfast

The painting shows a still life. On a table, various foodstuffs are prepared on plates, bowls and cutting boards, a ham, a herring, a escalope with a fly, two onions, bread and butter, and a tin-mounted stoneware jug, a beer glass and a knife.
On the back are several numbers. At the top left of the frame is the number 2 in a blue wax circle. Also in the blue wax circle, the number 11254 is to be read in a rectangle on the upper right edge of the wedge frame as well as on the lower left. In addition, the number 4 appears twice on the back of the painting in black color. In the lower left corner is the number 20 in red wax circle.
Acquired in November 1940 at the Kunsthaus Lempertz in Cologne at auction 410 (No. 81). From 24.02. until 31.03.1934, the painting was exhibited in the Galerie Stern, Düsseldorf, according to the inventory catalog on the exhibition "Gemälde alter Meister aus Rheinischem Privatbesitz".
In the list of owners in the auction catalog it is marked as from "nichtarischem Besitz".
