Southern landscape with Villa at a lake and staffage
The view is of a hill on a narrow, river-like lake. On the right bank of the lake, a two-storey villa in the southern style with portico. Right from the house an overgrown with high bushes steep bank. Left from the house an Italian landscape with cypresses and umbrella cypress and a tower-like columns pavilion with round dome. In the middle of the lake, a boat with two people. Behind, at the end of the lake a stone bridge with five pillars. In front, on the hill a meadow with sheep. Right from the sheep on the meadow stock two young women in middle-class clothes. On the left side a flowering mullein.
The painting "Südliche Landschaft mit Villa am See und Staffage" by Jakob Philipp Hackert was probably after 1781, during his stay in Italy. The painting is signed lower left by the artist, but not dated.
In whose ownership or possession were the painting of the creation to 1933 could not be determined. In the survey of the art dealer Ernst Haberstock on 10 March 1949 before the Office of Mlitary GOVERNMENT FOR BAVARIA, APO 47, said that from which the painting "in den 30er Jahren" acquired by him at a Berlin auction and then to the Reich Chancellery was sold for the "Neue Museum Linz, Donau". The sale or purchase at auction before 1933 would preclude prosecution related appropriation. According to the results of provenance research conducted in 2007 is no evidence before the Nazi persecution caused a loss of property suggest.
Because of the missing documents, however, a Nazi not be completely ruled out due to persecution asset loss.
