Mandarin
Scrolling picture (?) with representation of a (Chinese?) mandarin (civil servant, dignitary) in life size and frontal view, holding a rectangular book or document in the hands, probably not individual-concrete, but typified;
standing on an ornamented floor covering or carpet in a peculiar perspective; narrow frame Strip
Back side of the picture presumably with marking "P" (= indication of possession Slg. Ploschitzki);
The scroll framed with narrow strips is embedded in the middle of the longitudinal wall of the library room in a strong ornamented frame. - See Fig. from ca. 1930: Landesarchiv Berlin, F Rep. 290-05-01 No. 231 / Photo: Huth, Marta.
Currently difficult to identify in collections due to the typified representation of the mandarin.
Presumably it is a Chinese scroll painting. The art historian Dr. Rolf Parow, West Berlin, declared the portrait in an expert opinion in 1960 as a Japanese work, about 1750. Ornamented floor covering/carpet
