Bischoffsheim Collection, Baron Königswarter; the paintings were stored in the cellar of the Heylshof in 1943 and partly moved to Herrnsheim Castle. After the destruction of Heylshof during the war, they were reunited and exhibited in Herrnsheim Castle in 1947. The paintings reported as lost were missing. (Lost Works of Painting, 1965, page 182.
The painting was put up for auction at the Dorotheum auction house in Vienna in March 2004. At the request of the Kunsthaus Heylshof Foundation, it was withdrawn from the auction and deposited in court by Dorotheum. It will be clarified shortly whether an amicable agreement can be reached with the consignor regarding the return of the work. A legal dispute with the consignor regarding an auction was settled by the Wiesbaden Regional Court on 22 June 2007: The ownership claims of the Kunsthaus Heylshof Foundation were recognised as justified. The painting has been returned to the Museum Kunsthaus Heylshof since 11 March 2009.
