Provenance
Zygmunt Graf Skorzewski, Poland; confiscated by the Nazis in 1940 after the owner fled Poland and deposited in the museums and church of Poznan; later probably taken away by the Nazis; [...]; sold at auction at Lempertz, Cologne, lot 190, 6 June 1973; currently in the collection of the Forchhammer-Stiftung, Grünwald
Owner fled Poland in 1940 because he was wanted by the Nazis for engaging in various activities on behalf of the Allies. Many of the family’s art works were left behind at their homes (the Palace Lubostron and Palace Czerniejewo) and subsequently confiscated by the Nazi Arthur Greiser. Much of the collection was deposited in Poznan museums, and other parts of it were entrusted to the town church (and later looted by the Nazis).
Verlustgeschichte
