Faience Roof Rider: Gable Coronation, threateningly raised Dragon (Damaged)
Collection Eduard Fuchs, acquired between 1912-1922 and in his possession until 1933; 25.10.1933 confiscation by the Gestapo; forced sale (payment of Reichsfluchtsteuer) 1937 by his daughter Gertraud Fuchs: auction Auktionshaus Rudolph Lepke Berlin, catalogue 2115, p. 11 - on 15.10 and on 16.10.1937 this ridge turret was auctioned under no. 97b: "FAYENCE-DACHREITER, Giebelbekrönung, drohend aufgerichteter Drache; gelb, grün und braun glasiert. Länge 106 cm, Höhe 63 cm. Ming (Beschädigt). Abbildung Tafel 4".
According to the annotated Lepke catalogue (Kunsthistorische Bibliothek Den Haag) auctioned by the as yet unidentified art dealer or collector Brauner for RM 235 (estimated price: RM 200). The copy of the minutes of the auction 2115 at the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts notes in typescript "Brauner" and confirms the price of 235,- RM (Landesarchiv Berlin, A Rep. 243-04 Reich Chamber of Fine Arts - Landesleitung Berlin). Sold by Brauner between 1937-1942 to the art collector Carl Cords, who lived in Zappot (near Danzig), who bequeathed his collection to the then Frankfurt Museum für Kunsthandwerk in autumn 1943. The artwork was found at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt/Main. Restitution negotiations are in preparation.
